Newington Green, London

21b is a lower ground floor flat, located in the Newington Green Conservation area. The owners bought the flat as a repossession that needed a full refurbishment.

In order to open up the living space to the garden, Studio Wolsey designed a new rear extension with large sliding doors and a protruding bay window. The doors allow a physical connection to the garden and flood the space with natural light. The extension is constructed from blue engineering bricks to contrast with the existing London Stock bricks. The engineering bricks also form a garden planter, which leads inside to form a display wall, with brick picture ledges allowing the owner to display their art collection.

The kitchen was designed to look like built in furniture, with timber lower cabinets to match the floor, and white splash back and upper cupboards to blend into the walls. The result is a large and light open living space, perfect for entertaining.

Studio Wolsey was appointed for Full Architectural Services.
